Vintage 1940s-1950s Scrapbook Ornate Embossed Cover Large 14.5" x 16.5" tallThe cover is a beautiful and is a very dark blue with gold accents. There's a maker's stamp embossed under the binding rope, but I can only make out, MADE BY ???? PHOTO MOUNT CO USA
The pages are loose because the holes ripped through and because t
he pair of binding tubes that had fit the holes had cracked and the ends broke off
. There is some wear in a few areas, a section on front top left of spotting, and on the back, there's a 3/4" partial tear in a crease.
A mix of material inside. Looks to be possibly from a high school girl whose family was somewhat well known in the local business community.
Notably, there is a front page article
from a newspaper in Cleveland, OH, dated August 1954,
about the famous Sam Sheppard murder trial, which had just begun. This was from about a month after his wife's murder (July 4). He was a native Clevelander, and neurosurgeon, who was initially found guilty of murdering his wife, but would later be acquitted in a retrial, and subsequently released from prison in 1966.
Mostly newspaper clippings: Some marriages, deaths, accidents, local sports, a very little WW2 mainland, etc. Some random stuff like a Sohio Season's Greetings empty envelope, a high school graduation program from 1941, a Mother's Day card, and some church materials. Some mounted, and some loose.
An interesting mix of items and articles, but the large format, and the cover design is what makes this scrap book amazing.
Thank you!
