This is a very rare, (probably will never print another) quality original hand printed silver halide gelatin photograph (not a digital inkjet print) custom printed by long time Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus in a darkroom from the original negative, archivally developed in chemistry on Ilford 'Pearl' semi-matte surface black & white photographic paper, cropped, and mounted on a
red
8x10 inch backing board (not shown in photo) with caption and photography of the Corner Saimin restaurant on California Ave in Wahiawa

It was a typical mom & pop business and is initialed ('BR 7
4
') and dated on the front of the photo, is shrink wrapped (you can see it) to protect it from damage and has the caption and preservation tips included in the label on the back. Only 3 ever printed and it is also darker on the right side because it was in the shadow of the other buildings.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes Wahiawa or historic building images of Hawaii.

e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on non-glossy semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen.  We do however try to crop and correct them so they look best. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from the original negative and margins may be slightly trimmed. When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin at  edges of the photo which you can see here. Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is. This original silver halide gelatin print was photographed, developed, and hand printed from the original negative in a darkroom on Ilford® Black and White 'Pearl' (semi-matte) surface paper by professional surfing, stock photographer, and master black and white printer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography, who has been shooting surfing, stock and scenics since 1967. He is one of a very few photographers in the world who specializes in hand printing original black & white waves and surfing. His most recent work has appeared in the  CBS/Eye productions "Hawaii 50", Disney/Dreamworks productions "Fright Night", ABC Television pilot "My Generation", Sony Pictures "Soul Surfer", CBS/Paramount Network TV series "The Cleaner" on A&E Networks, Universal Pictures "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", and Warner Brothers  "The Big Bounce", filmed on the North Shore or on Oahu, providing vintage photos of nostalgia, and surfing for background artwork.
Bill has lived in Hawaii for over 50 years. In 1965 he shot his first surfing photo and was a contributing photographer to 'Surfer', and 'Surfing' magazines, and over 30 international surfing magazines and manufacturers, as a photojournalist for over 100 publications, advertising/stock photo agencies, and corporate clients worldwide.In 1983, he started NORTH SHORE PHOTOGRAPHY, specializing in black & white darkroom services, after attaining the status as a master black & white printer and film processor for professional clients island wide. His photos have credited him with over 200 cover shots and full page advertisements. His work has appeared in Popular Photography, Shutterbug, American Photographer, Shape, Men's Fitness, Surfing, Surfer, Honolulu, Aloha, Hawaii newspapers, Outdoor, Outside, Conde Nast Traveler, National Enquirer, CNN, Discovery & History Channels, & many others.
