    Description

This listing is for a large 12" height x 8" overall width ( including handle)  German Westerwald stoneware flagon pitcher with two matching mugs.
    With
multi color decoration in blue, green and brown and  h
    and incising, the
    embossed
    design
    depicts Gambrinus, the
    mythological
King of Beers  sitting on a hilltop and
holding up a foaming mug.  A mountain goat rests by his side and t
    here is a tablet with six-point brewer's star .
    A banner above
    Gambrinus done
in old script would read in modern German something like  '
Gerste und Hopfen giebt Wundertropfen' which translates into "
Barley and hops give wondrous drops".
The spout is masked and all around  are barley and hops.
On the bottom base of pitcher is an impressed number of 502 with hand initialed signature.  Two matching m
ugs marked as 0.3L capacity measure approximately 4" height.
Handle of pitcher and mugs were made with standard holes for attaching lids, but no signs of these pieces ever having any lids.
No other identifying marks that I can find.  I have not been able to find another one just like it and age and maker is unknown. Pitcher and mugs are all in very good condition, just one small scrape that I can find on the glaze of the pitcher on the edge of banner  ( see closeup photo). Slight wobble that is factory original with slight imperfection on bottom.
