Description

A reverse glass painting which I think is attributed to an original painting by Guiseppe Castiglioni (1688-1766), a Jesuit who lived in China during the early 18th-century, titled
The Qianlong Emperor in Ceremonial Armour
on Horseback
. This painting depicts the Qianlong Emperor, the sixth emperor of the Qing dynasty, astride a beautiful horse. He wears traditional armor and carries a quiver of arrows with him. The painting is unsigned, and is presented behind glass in a lacquered black frame with a brass hanging hardware on the top of the frame.
It measures about 20 1/2" (52.07 cm) tall and about 14" (35.56 cm) in width.
Overall condition is excellent with a few blemishes on the frame. There are 3 missing locking dowel? in the back frame.
