Description
Here we have one absolutely stunning example of Chinese imperial furniture in this hand carved ebonized Hongmu wood dragon throne from the late Qing Dynasty. This piece dates to the turn of the century when Chinese woodworkers were making furniture for the western export market. This throne was hand carved entirely of a Chinese hardwood known as Hongmu, and then the exterior was ebonized. Dragons have always held a special place in Chinese culture and mythology, but during the Qing dynasty, the dragon became an official national symbol with the adoption of the first official national flag of China. This throne features 5 dragons, two on the front legs, two dragons with pearls in their mouths making up the arms and extending to the back, with the final dragon in the center of the back. Overall, this piece is in great vintage condition with only some slight spots of wear on the front of the right arm that are consistent with age and normal use. The entire chair is well made and still as sturdy as ever, and comes with the pictured cushion. If you're looking for the ultimate statement piece, this throne is certain to turn heads and leave an impression.Dimensions: 25" deep - 35" tall - 30" wide - 17" seat height
