    Description

Chair bought from a private individual (non-dealer) upstairs in his home in Bedford County Virginia.  Old, vintage, antique original I 'm sure was made in China.  It is a large, heavy chair with all parts intact in as found condition.  It was made in 10 or more individual unique pieces assembled into this chair. Chair has Foo Dogs and other designs, a beautifully arranged extensive pattern of leaves and vines, round medallions and all intricately hand carved in wood with age patina.  The wood is dark brown but in some of the pictures it appears reddish due to the reddish color of the setting sun.  I see no writing on it.  The sturdy, blue, form fitting velvet like cushion was custom made.
In the last picture there is a view of the bottom end of one chair leg.  Note the thick, sturdy, wooden, dovetail shaped projection on the bottom.  All four legs have this.  I don't know why the legs have these pegs/projections.  Once, on line, I saw an antique Chinese chair with this type pegs/projections. They did not give an explanation.  If you know tell me.  I'm curious.
Several months ago I looked at hundreds of ebay active and completed auctions and found only one Chinese chair that resembled mine  In the listing title were the words; Antique Chinese Cat Xiaoye Zitan Ming Ebony and Wu/Yinchen.  The sellers "buy it now" price  was 9,999.95  !!!
As with most antiques, you might expect to find normal dings, nicks, stains, scrapes, scratches, loose pieces, patina and the like.  Carefully study all pictures as they are part of the description.  I am not experienced or an expert in the field of antique Asian furniture.  In twenty years of seriously searching for and buying antiques I have not seen a chair resembling this one.  This chair is an unusual antique work of art.
