This is one of many great vintage & antique items I'm currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure.
    You are bidding on:
    Eight Original Photographic Prints
Pearl Harbor Navy Yard Commissary & Mess Hall
    possibly by
    Tai Sing Loo
    Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii
    ~ circa 1943-44 ~
    "B"
This is one of two sets I'm listing. Though some photos look very similar among the two sets - all are different except for one duplicate taken in the mess hall. I'm not sure what year the mess hall photos were taken. The Commissary photos were taken around September of 1944.
Though these photos are not signed 'Tai Sing Loo', they are the same size and format as all the other photos I'm currently listing by Tai Sing Loo.
These photos were saved by a sailor who worked as a butcher at the Commissary in the Navy Yard at Pearl Harbor. He served in the Navy from June '43 to Nov '45. I am also listing other photos by Tai Sing Loo including photos of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, of
    Breakers
Navy Beach Club on Waikiki, and of the Commissary where this sailor worked as cook and butcher.
    Tai Sing Loo
(1886-1971) was a photographer of Pearl Harbor and many sporting events in Hawaii. From 1909 to 1918, he worked with the Gurrey studio. From 1919 until his retirement in 1949, he served as an official Navy photographer. In that capacity, he photographed the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and the battleships, and recorded VIP visits, funerals and recreational events. He also photographed for the Inter-Island Steamship Company and was an accomplished landscape photographer. Some of his well-known photographs include many of Duke Kahanamoku, Pearl Harbor before and after the bombing, celebrities and presidential visits to Hawaii. Loo also helped to break the Japanese Codes that were put into false newspaper advertisements that detailed when the attack would occur and the formations of the planes for the attack.
    Photo Measures Approx 5 x 7 Inches.
In Very Good to Excellent Vintage Condition.
