    Description

Owens-Illinois glass company. It has the wire closure and stopper. The stopper works well, opens and closes freely, and says Gem Stopper Co Phila PA with the number 1 in the center. The glass has two side seams. No label remnants or any type of embossing other than on the bottom. The base shows the logo flanked by 6 4 and below is 17. There's a red string at the top, not sure if that is original or added by someone (i.e. price tag)?
The logo has the oval, diamond, and I formation manufactured from 1929 to 1954. After 54 the logo is just an oval and the capital I. This is a half-gallon size bottle or 64 ounces. The 6 & 4 on the base are just coincidental. The 6 stands for the factory code: Charleston, WV and the 4 stands for the year code: 1934 in this case since the single digit is not followed by a period. Single-digit date codes with the period after are from the 40s and from 47 on they used two-digit date codes. The 17 is a reference to the form or mold used to make the bottle.
Excellent condition for a 87-year-old bottle. No chips or cracks. Light wear on the base as you would expect. Needs a little cleaning. Size is 14 inches tall x 4.5 inches at base x 1 inch opening at top. Weight is 2 pounds 5 ounces.
