    Description

Native Women Bathing in Nuuanu Stream. 9 x 7 inches. Circa 1880s, albumen photograph by Chase. From Queen Liliuokalani's personal collection. --- Albumen hand-printing, invented in 1850, was the most popular form of photographic printing from the 1860s to 1890s. It used the albumen found in egg whites to bind the photographic chemicals to the paper, and silver nitrate to produce images by exposure to light.
